West Bengal State University (WBSU) sends invitation for applications for full-time PhD programs once a year through newspaper advertisements and notifications on its website. The lowest eligibility is 55% marks (50% for the reserved categories) in postgraduate degree in the relevant subject. Candidates are obliged to hand in the application form which contains copies of documents showing the qualification, two passport size photos and fees for the applicants.
Shortlisted candidates have to go through a written entrance test of the University followed by a personal interview. 1. Browse the university website or admission notification to learn the latest date to apply and application procedure. Applications are usually obtained through advertisements in newspapers or on the university website.
2. Choose a professor from the university who is willing to be your guide for a PhD and get his/her consent letter. Besides, you should select the vast field/topic of your proposed PhD research.
3. The PhD programme application form can be acquired online or from the university by paying the required fee. The form will ask you to give details about your education, the research topic that you plan to work on, etc.
4. Attach all the supporting documents with the PhD application, such as the identity proof, educational certificates, experience letters, consent letter from guide etc., which are self-attested.
5. Submit the filled application form with the supporting documents either online or directly to the university by the deadline set by the advertisement/notification. An interview is usually performed after the applications are thoroughly examined.
6. If you get the admission, you will be provisionally accepted to the PhD program after paying the first semester fee. Thus, you have to clear the coursework, submit a research proposal and meet other university requirements that are prescribed by the PhD rules.

1. Look at the university website or advertisement for the PhD notification and verify you are eligible according to the educational criteria and entrance exam requirements.
2. Get the application form online or offline and submit the form before the deadline together with the documents and application fee.
3. To appear in the university Entrance Test if it is required. Some departments are the ones to conduct their own entrance exam while others call the eligible candidates for an interview.
