ANNA University furnishes PhD programs across various branches of engineering and technology which are embedded within the main campus in Chennai and the satellites campus. The minimum requirement for admission to the PhD program is a Master's degree in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% aggregate. The Ph.D candidates must pass the examination of ANNA University which evaluates technical knowledge, research aptitude and communication skills. Following a shortlisting process, the applicants are interviewed by the Selection Committee, which consists of the faculty members from the college and the subject experts from outside.
The PhD candidates selected need to complete the mandatory coursework in their initial year of studies, which covers the research related methodology and the advanced engineering concepts. 1. Visit the university website at that point for the PhD notification and the application form will be available for download when admissions get open. Fill out the form with all the relevant information.

1. UGC NET or CSIR NET: The National Eligibility Test conducted by the University Grants Commission or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is a mandatory admission criterion for PhD at ANNA University.
2. GATE: The General Aptitude Test in Engineering is one of the largest and most comprehensive engineering exams, with questions on a wide range of undergraduate subject areas in engineering and science.
3. TIFR GS: For students who wish to get admit in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science subjects, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Graduate School entrance test is required that helps assessing research capabilities.
4. JEST: Admission to the Ph.D. program in Theoretical Sciences which covers subfields such as Physics and Biology is through the Joint Entrance Screening test. It measures the analytical skills and ability.
5. JGEEBILS: Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research ( JNCASR) conducts this exam which is aimed at PhD level in biology disciplines. It evaluates students’ research skills in biology or medicine.
6. ICAR Entrance Exams: PhD in agriculture and allied fields is only possible after clearing the ICAR entrance test such as ARS-NET, which measures the understanding of the core agricultural concepts.
