Gauhati University admits at the same time graduate and post-graduate students every academic year. Seats for undergraduates with BA, BSc, BCom, etc. are filled as per the scores in the qualifying class. Students need to pass 12th with 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category) marks for B.A or B.Sc programs. A minimum of 50% is usually the requirement of programs like B.Com for the professional field.
Postgraduate programs like M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, etc. university departments accept the candidates only if they have achieved good scores in their undergrad studies. The threshold percentage is moderate (in the range of 45-50% with relaxation as per rules of government). The college also has a wide variety of diploma, PG diploma and certificate programmes the minimum eligibility for which can be from 10+2 certificate to degree courses.

1. To apply for the admission, visit their Gauhati University admission website and follow the admission notification to get information about the application schedule, eligibility criteria and documents required.
2. Determine the course you want to participate in. Then, got to admission portal, fill in all the necessary information such as, name, date of birth, email id, mobile number etc.
3. Enter your account and provide the requested information by filling out the online application form properly using all your personal, academic details as well as additional important data. Put in scans of documents you have captured.
4. Application fees payment means online credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI. Kindly print, keep and save the duly completed form and fee deposit receipt.
5. Follow the application progress online. Listed selected applicants will be contacted with regard to what is there still on the admission process like counseling, document verification etc.
6. When chosen the process of enrollment must to be finalized by the due date by filling up any outstanding documents, providing the fees and registering self within the time frame. Collect ID card thereafter.

1. Admission to PhD(National Eligibility Test (NET) or MPhil programs (State Eligibility Test (SET) is requires only. These types are intended to measure the overall intellectual ability and the subject-specific knowledge.
2. Engineering Aptitude Test in Graduate (GATE) Engineering is mandatory for this ME, MTech and direct PhD programs in engineering disciplines. GATE tests engineering aptitude.
3. The university is set to conduct entrance examinations (CET) that are a prerequisite for enrolling in different courses such as MBA, MCA, BEd, etc. CET evaluates the aptitude of the applicants in these particular programs.
4. Universities carry out their own separate admission exams in some departments and institutes for the entry of their own master’s courses in subjects that include Mass Communication, Biotechnology, etc.
5. The candidates of under graduation degree have to pass the higher secondary exam were of the state board or national exam for the 12th grade.
6. In some divisions such as NRI/NRI-based and foreign one grade can be applied which would give an opportunity to some candidates who didn’t take entrance exams as their equivalent previous school/college results can count.
1. Educational Qualification: Students must have cleared Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with the ancillary marks. These marks vary from course to course. Students should secure minimum 45-60% for graduate courses in their Class 12.
2. Entrance Tests: Which program the candidates apply for determining if they have to face the entrance exam, GUET. After the cut-off score wise and merit-based selection of shortlisted candidates, they will be called to attend counseling rounds.
3. Age Limit: Typically, grade nine is the lowest grade accepted for undergraduate programs and there is no maximum age for admission. For graduate course the minimum age is 22 years, and therefore the eligibility condition is met.
4. Migration Certificate: The complainants who have experience for boards other than SEBA/AHSEC have to submit migration certificate and affidavit which is registered.
5. Domicile Requirement: For instance, for some programs like MBBS one must meet the conditions specified by the domicile requirements for eligibility. Some quota/reservation has been also taken for candidates living in Assam.
6. Subject Specific Criteria: There are certain programs that come with extra conditions like specific subjects that were studied in Class 12, least marks in various subjects, etc.
1. Log in the university website to get the information as regards the availability of the form which is in most cases, from May-June. Choose whether to fill out the form on the internet or in person before the due date.
2. In addition to the entrance test, make sure attend the scheduled university entrance exam for the subject you are applying for, on which the exam is usually conducted earlier in June-July. It may be possible that one facility gives you immediate enrollment without qualifying test.
3. Wait for the announcement of merit list by university, and check whether or not you were deemed 'qualified'. The list consists of students whose marks or exam scores fall into the range.
4. Show up at the counseling center on the day and time scheduled for you to fill out forms and make all the necessary choice verifications on your shortlist. Provide both your documents and certificates.
5. The list of successful first-round admissions is released after the evaluation process. In order to verify your name is there, check it.
6. The admission process would be more dynamic without the need to go through the myriad of steps such as reporting to the assigned department, filling the admission forms and paying the requisite fees on time.
