Dibrugarh University offers PhD courses in many stream such as Science, Arts, commerce, education, and also in other field. The requirements for PhD admission include having a master's degree level qualifications in the subject with at least a 55% mark or equivalent grades being the minimum. Besides, candidates who have appeared in the countrywide competitive tests including UGC NET/JRF, ICMR/CSIR-JRF, and fellowships like teacher fellowships, and MPhil qualifiers are eligible for the position.
The process of applying for PhD degree at our university starts by publishing the official admission form on the university website, mostly in the month of May/ June every year. The deadline for the submission of original application forms has to be completed by the end of the date. They must also be submitted with the required documents, such as photocopies of all previous degrees, marksheets, research proposal, NOC for employed candidates, etc. Shortlisted candidates have to appear for an entrance test, which is comprised of a written examination, and followed by an interview conducted by the concerned departments of the university. Final decision depends on candidates’ performance in examinations which determine their academic background and research experience or future prospects.

1. Admission will be granted only to those eligible for and having cleared the university conducted entrance test, Dibrugarh University Entrance Test (DUET). This is a written test that assesses linguistic abilities.
2. Candidates have to take the eligibility test (RET) consisting of 2 essays to test their research methodologies and subject awareness, also.
3. Candidates who cleared UGC-NET / Jr. Research Fellow, CSIR-NET / Jr. Research Fellow, SET, GATE or those who hold a Teacher Fellowship certificates are not required to appear for DUET and RET.
