The National Institute of Technology Durgapur (NITD) caters full-time and part-time PhD Programs for the engineering, science and humanities disciplines. The choice of the PhD candidates is made through a GATE examination (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), which is a national level test and an interview that is carried out by the institute itself.
The candidates who have finished a master's degree in the relevant subject area with a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA are the only ones who can apply. Applications through newspaper advertisements and the institute website are generally invited for 4-6 months period between spring and summer. The selected candidates will be eligible to get into the GATE exam and post clearing it, the aspirants will have to score above the cut-off for their field of study as set by NITD. Then, the shortlisted applicants are called for a personal interview in which their research interests and aptitude are evaluated by a departmental committee.
