The Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) has an online admission system for all the undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in its constituent and affiliated colleges. Online application process starts in May/June annualy after the university announces the admission time table in the beginning of each academic year.
After the application is submitted, it is screened by the university and shortlisted candidates have to participate in the selection process which may entail an entrance test and/or document verification. A shortlist of the candidates is drawn next, after which they have to log in again to their admissions portal to pick the colleges and courses based on their choices, availability and rank. The process of getting the seat allotment is done online with a series of counseling beginning from the first round till the last and the allotment letter can be downloaded after which the students are required to report with the documents and the fee at the allotted college for final admission confirmation.

- It is noteworthy that in online admissions one can apply via website of LNMU. Online admissions are taken for various programs, such as BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom etc.
- Most of the programs are offered based on the candidate's academic merit in the previous qualifying exam. The test in question is common for both the science and non-science streams, for which no separate admission test is arranged.
- For some selected areas, such as MBA, MCA and B.Ed, it may be considered by candidates to appear at university/ state level entrance exams like IPU-CET, BCECE etc.
- Admission into PhD programs is only done after the candidates have passed an entrance test and interview conducted by LNMU.
- Reservation category students are also covered under reservation of seats and other relaxation policies of the government.
- For under graduate courses, a passed result of 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board is required.
- Bachelor's degree verified at time of admission to a postgraduate course.
- The minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying exam required for a course may differ from one course to the other. For illustration 45% for BA/BSc/BCom and 50% for MA/MSc/MCom, to cite an example.
- However, we will still accept final year students that need to pass their final examination prior to admission to our university.
- Percentage relaxation for the reserved category students as per government rules is designed by the government.
- Not age limit except for particular program unless it is specified.
- Other elements such as a selective entry exam could be add to the list for certain courses that require specialist/technical skills.
