It is noteworthy that Assam University admit students into its full time PhD programs twice in a year, during July and January intakes. The contenders who have completed their Master’s degree in the concerned subject with 55% of marks (50% for the reserved categories) are eligible for the examination. The candidates are also supposed to attach the duly filled and signed application form, photocopies of the degree certificates and mark sheets, passport size color photographs and the application fee as remitted.
Candidates have to take a written entrance examination that is set by the University for shortlisted candidates. Next, those who pass the written test will be subjected to an interview session. The last step involves determining the shortlisted candidate from the written examination and an interview. Some of the PhD learners are required to take course works in their first year of the program. They then have to carry out their research in their chosen areas with the help of a faculty advisor and produce the thesis in order to be awarded the PhD degree within the required timeframe. A PhD degree requires a minimum of three years to complete, and the maximum period is five years. Fellowships at Ph.D. level, in a given form and as per university rules and regulation are provided for the deserving candidates.
